Athletic Therapists

Krista Floren, BSc.(Kin), CAT(C), CSCS

Certified Athletic Therapist, Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist

Krista graduated from the University of Winnipeg where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Applied Health. In 2010 Krista became a Certified Athletic Therapist with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA). In 2011 she earned her Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist designation through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). In the field, she has worked with the Fort Garry Lions Football Club, the FC Winnipeg Lions soccer club and the Manitoba Junior Women's Hockey League.

Growing up, Krista played a variety of sports, with soccer and hockey being her two favourites. This love of sports is what initially pushed her to pursue a career in Athletic Therapy. As a therapist, Krista believes in patient centred care that includes individualized treatment, continued communication and patient education. She uses a variety of manual therapy techniques and active based exercises to help her clients reach their goals. 

Outside of work Krista enjoys spending time at her family cottage, cooking, curling, snowboarding, cheering on the Jets and spending time with her husband and dog.

Cody Bruce-Smith, BSc.(Kin), CAT(C), CSCS, ACP

Certified Athletic Therapist, Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist, Advanced Care Paramedic

Cody is a graduate of the University of Winnipeg where he completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology and Applied Health. Cody holds certification with the Canadian Athletic Therapy Association (CATA) as well as with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).

In the clinic Cody utilizes a variety of rehabilitative techniques including manual therapy and exercise to promote optimal healing, preparing clients for an effective and safe reintegration into the activities that they enjoy.  In the gym Cody uses functional training techniques to optimize the movement and performance of his clients providing them with a fun, safe, and effective environment to train in.  Cody has worked with the University of Winnipeg Women's Volleyball Team, Grant Park Pirates Football, Fort Gary Lions Football Club, U18 FCNW Girls Premier Soccer Team, FCNW Women's Premier Soccer Team, and Winnipeg Wolfpack Women's Tackle Football Team.

In addition to his clinical practice, Cody also works for the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service as an Advanced Care Paramedic.

Matthew Romanychyn, B(Kin), MPT

Physiotherapist

Matt graduated from the University of Manitoba Bachelor of Kinesiology program in 2012. He then continued his studies at the University of Manitoba and graduated with his Master of Physiotherapy in 2014. During Matt's education, he was selected as an advanced orthopaedic manual therapy student, which allowed him to be mentored by some of the best physiotherapists in Manitoba. Since graduating in 2014, Matt has completed the orthopaedic manual therapy level 1, level 2 upper and lower, and level 3 upper and lower courses. Additionally, Matt has completed vestibular therapy/rehabilitation courses which provide him the opportunity to treat all sorts of vestibular conditions (see vestibular physiotherapy section). He has the education and experience to provide custom orthotics, using a casting/mold technique. Lastly, Matt has completed both athletic and fascial movement taping courses.


Matt's rehabilitation approach often includes a combination of manual therapy and specific exercises to help you return to full function as safely and quickly as possible.

Outside of physiotherapy, Matt enjoys staying active by playing hockey and golf, exercising and going on hikes. Matt spends his free time with his family and friends, weekends at the lake, travelling, and following the Jets!

Collin Rody

Physiotherapist

Collin graduated from the University of Manitoba in 2018 with his Masters in Physiotherapy. Since graduating, Collin has furthered his education by completing courses in orthopedic manual therapy, management of the lower back, cancer rehabilitation & post- concussion management. Collin became acupuncture certified in 2020. Before coming to the Benefit team Collin work with the Sport Manitoba Medical clinic.

Collin’s approach to rehabilitation will include the combination of manual therapy, soft tissue work & strong patient education along side specific exercises aimed to help clients return to full function or reach specific goals. 

Outside of physiotherapy, Collin loves to fish and spend time outdoors. Collin has a young family and finds great joy in raising his twins. In addition to his clinical practice, Collin also works as a rehabilitation consultant. 

Daniel Aran, BSc.(KIN), MPT

Physiotherapist

Daniel is a dedicated physiotherapist that earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Winnipeg in 2018, followed by a Masters of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Manitoba in 2020. Daniel prioritizes actively listening to his patients and integrates manual therapy, exercises, and education to promote optimal recovery.

Outside the clinic, Daniel likes to maintain an active lifestyle, engaging in activities like running, playing volleyball, exercising at the gym, and going on hikes.

Melissa Skibinski, MPT

Physiotherapist

Melissa completed her Bachelors of Exercise and Sport Science in 2005 and  upon completion, certified as an Athletic Therapist. In that year, she also pursued her Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist designation with the National Strength and Conditioning Association. She started her career working in BC as an athletic therapist for a Junior A hockey team and seeing clients in a physiotherapy clinic.

In 2010, she moved back to Manitoba and started working at Focus Fitness as a Strength Coach and Athletic Therapist. Here she had the opportunity to work with Olympic level and professional athletes.

In 2016 she completed her Masters of Physical Therapy and certified as a Physiotherapist. She worked at Pan Am Clinic before making the move to Benefit and the Selkirk Hospital. 

Helping others achieve their movement goals and recover from injury is her passion and she is grateful to be doing that on a daily basis. 

When not at work Melissa enjoys spending time with her two boys.

Khushpal Brar

Physiotherapist

Khushpal completed her physiotherapy education in 2019. She has been practicing as a physiotherapist since 2021. After concluding her education, Khushpal has completed a number of courses include her Level 1 Orthopaedic Manual Therapy  course and Pelvic Floor training Levels 1, 2 and 3 through Pelvic Health Solutions.

Khushpal's approach includes manual therapy, exercises and targets the biopsychosocial components of pain management. 

Outside of the clinic, Khushpal likes to workout in the gym daily and spending time with her family. 

Along with English, Khushpal also offers physiotherapy services in Hindi and Punjabi.

Mikaela Morhun, RMT

Registered Massage Therapist

Mikaela graduated from Wellington College of Remedial Massage Therapies in 2018. She has since expanded her massage therapy practice to incorporate cupping and Gua Sha. She utilizes a combination of deep tissue, relaxation, and trigger point techniques to provide individualized treatments to her clients. Mikaela has taken a variety of continued education courses during her years of working as an RMT which include athletic and medical taping, sports massage, and therapeutic communications. Providing clients with personalized massage therapy treatments and developing therapeutic relationships is her favorite part of being an RMT at Benefit Rehab.

Mikaela’s passion for health sciences and helping people has guided her to pursue a career in nursing and she is currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Nursing program at Red River College. When she is not working at Benefit or studying Mikaela enjoys spending time at her trailer with family and dogs, watching true crime documentaries, and playing soccer.

Ashley Matthewman, RMT

Registered Massage Therapist

Ashley graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Kinesiology-Athletic Therapy in 2018. She became a Certified Athletic Therapist with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA) soon after. Continuing her education, Ashley attended Evolve College of Massage Therapy. She is a Registered Massage Therapist with the Massage Therapy Association of Manitoba (MTAM). Learning and staying up to date on research helps Ashley care for her clients. She has completed many courses, including cupping, pelvic floor health and joint mobilizations.

A treatment with Ashley is aimed at meeting you where you are at. From surgery rehabilitation to general aches and pains to regular maintenance, she can help guide your recovery. Ashley takes interest in learning about each of her clients so treatments and home programs can be personalized to each individual. Learning client goals and the realities that they face helps Ashley work with them to make rehabilitation more attainable and enjoyable. 

Outside of work, Ashley enjoys reading, watching the Bombers, spending time with her family and keeping active. She can often be found working out, golfing or at a family game night.

Nathan Kiazyk, RMT

Registered Massage Therapist

Nathan graduated from the Massage Therapy program at Robertson College in 2019. He is currently a full time student at the University of Winnipeg, where he is completing an Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology degree. After he graduates, he hopes to pursue a Master of Physiotherapy at the University of Manitoba. 

Nathan's treatment philosophy focuses on a movement-based approach and emphasizes a holistic perspective to address patients' issues. He utilizes stretching and myofascial techniques during treatment, along with breathing cues to maximize relaxation. Continued progression of prescribed exercises and stretches are also used to help with maximizing healing.

Outside of work and school, Nathan enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing the piano, weightlifting, martial arts, skiing, and keeping up with the Wesmen sports teams.

McKenna Yuskow

Admininstration

McKenna is our administrator and the first face you see when you come to Benefit. She joined the Benefit team back in 2022 and it was the perfect fit with her interest in kinesiology and love for working with people.

When she isn’t working you can catch her chasing her toddler around, spending time with her dogs, family, and friends. A quirky fact about McKenna is that she hates hot drinks! You can catch her rocking an iced coffee all year long.
